EDF 7th Human Rights Report. The Right to Work: The employment situation of persons with disabilities in Europe

EDF 7th Human Rights Report. The Right to Work: The employment situation of persons with disabilities in Europe

The Seventh Edition of the European Disability Forum’s Human Rights Report focuses on the right to work of persons with disabilities.

For many persons with disabilities, finding and maintaining quality employment remains a major challenge. Year after year, decade after decade, data shows us just how much harder it is for persons with disabilities to enter and remain in the labour market.

Behind employment data, the reality of the quality of employment that persons with disabilities find is often obscured. While many persons with disabilities are denied work opportunities because of discrimination, countless others who manage to find work still face discrimination within the workplace.

In this edition:

  • We dissect the latest data on the employment of persons with disabilities in the European Union.
  • We explore the major barriers to employment, compare the realities in different EU Member States, and hear the personal experiences of persons with disabilities across Europe.
  • We map existing policies to promote the employment of persons with disabilities in the EU and conclude by presenting our own recommendations to policy makers.
