Housing Adaptation Grant Review Submission

Issued on August 23 2022

The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage are carrying out a review of Housing Adaptation Grants. DFI made a submission in relation to some of the common issues people experience with the grants to inform the review. Housing adaptation grants are vital in enabling people’s right to housing and can enable people to continue living at home after acquiring a disability or when their condition progresses.

DFI’s submission made a range of recommendations, including:

  • Increase overall funding for the grants
  • Increase the maximum grant amount to reflect the large rise in building costs
  • Raise the income threshold and consider only the income of the disabled person
  • Reducing the administrative burden for applicants
